Resources for Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Faculty

PNP Faculty

Find important updates, helpful resources for you and your students, as well as the information you need to participate in PNCB Program Resources. Participation is free and participating programs are required to:

  • Complete the annual documentation process.
  • Ensure that the program accreditation dates are current, and the program is in good standing. PNP programs that have a CCNE accreditation status of “Show Cause” or “Adverse Action” or an ACEN accreditation state of “With Conditions,” “With Warning,” or “For Good Cause” must immediately contact us at programresources@pncb.org for additional instruction.
  • If a program loses their accreditation status, PNP students who graduate after the loss of accreditation date cannot take a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner–Primary Care or Acute Care certification exam.

Benefits of PNCB's Program Resources:

  • Less paperwork for faculty
  • Access to aggregate student performance statistics
  • Faster exam application processing for students
  • Support from the PNCB team

Contact us at programresources@pncb.org for additional information.

Especially for faculty! Do you have pain points or challenges in your item writing process? Writing exam questions is both a science and an art. You'll see how to craft fair, relevant questions to avoid flaws and accurately validate knowledge. 2.5 contact hours.

December 2021: PNCB's comprehensive research article regarding our third analysis of AC PNP practice is available from the Journal of Pediatric Health Care. Thank you to the hundreds of practicing acute care PNPs who participated to ensure the CPNP-AC exam continues to reflect current practice.

PNCB's Institute of Pediatric Nursing offers free posters and talking points to encourage prospective APRN students to choose PNP programs.

All post-graduate or post-master's DNP PNP Program applicants must possess a minimum of a Master of Science in Nursing or a Doctorate of Nursing degree from an ACEN or CCNE nationally accredited program.

The PNCB requires information documenting the process utilized by PNP program faculty to determine the equivalency of a non-US based educational experience. Candidates from the University of Toronto applying for the Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner–Primary Care certification exam are not required to provide this additional documentation.

This includes foreign coursework and clinical experiences that may be applied towards a nationally accredited US Master's or doctorate-level pediatric nurse practitioner educational program.

Candidates and PNP Program faculty may contact the PNCB at exam@pncb.org to learn more about this requirement.

The Association of Faculties of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (AFPNP) is a national organization of nursing educators who teach in pediatric, family, and school nurse practitioner programs, and who work together on relevant practice and educational issues. Established in 1972, AFPNP seeks to foster quality interdisciplinary education of pediatric nurse practitioners.

PNCB actively supports the AFPNP in their efforts to amplify the voice of faculty for the future of PNP education.
