Updated PMHS Role Research
The Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) is excited to announce that the latest practice research on Pediatric Primary Care Mental Health Specialists (PMHSs) has been published in The Journal for Nurse Practitioners: Pediatric Primary Care Mental Health Specialist Examination: Job Task Analysis.
Based on PNCB's latest PMHS job task analysis study, the article provides an overview of characteristics of providers practicing in this important role, including:
- Demographics
- Clinical practice settings
- Knowledge areas and tasks
- Diagnoses and billing practices
- Screening and assessment tools
- Pharmacologic agents, therapies, and interventions
- Continuing education trends
- COVID-19 impact
Findings from the research continue to demonstrate that individuals who hold the PMHS credential play a critical role in the care of pediatric populations who display symptoms of developmental, behavioral, or mental health conditions. The goal of this routine, required study was to update the current knowledge, skills, attitudes, and competencies needed to practice as a competent Pediatric Primary Care Mental Health Specialist (PMHS) and to ensure validity for the content outline for the PMHS examination.
Open access to the article is available until January 1, 2023 via ScienceDirect.
